After 20 years at Northern Oklahoma College including the final seven as athletic director, Jeremy Hise is leaving NOC for a teaching and coaching position at Enid High School.
Hise will teach English and be the high school assistant softball coach.
Hise, a native of Perry, served as athletic director since 2013. He served 11 years as an assistant to NOC Enid coach Raydon Leaton before becoming the school’s athletic director. He graduated from NOC Tonkawa in 1998, then earned a bachelor’s degree from UCO and a master’s degree at Northwestern.
“I love Northern Oklahoma College,” Hise said. “I love the coworkers and students I have been fortunate enough to work with over the past 20 years.”
“There are so many people who provided me with opportunities at Northern,” Hise added. “I am thankful Raydon (Leaton) hired me when we started the baseball program 20 years ago. I am thankful Dr. Evans provided me with the opportunity to serve as athletic director. Most of all I am thankful for all the friendships that have been formed through it all.”
Hise reflected on his tenure as the athletic director.
“I’ve said many times before that if we lose every game and every student-athlete has a 4.00 GPA we have failed,” he said. “On the flip side, if every team wins a national title but nobody graduates we have failed. Over the past seven years we have had 48 teams recognized by the NJCAA for academic excellence, 280 Academic All-Americans, and two NJCAA Academic National Team of the Year.”
“During that same period of time we had eight teams qualify for the National Tournament, 21 All-Americans and a National Championship. That reflects the hard work of our student-athletes, the dedication and leadership of our coaches, and the many great faculty and staff who are always willing to help all of our students at Northern.”
He is excited to back on the field as a coach and in the classroom.
“I am excited about this new opportunity and new challenges at Enid High School,” he said. “I have missed the relationships you get to build with students in the classroom and through coaching. I hope that I am able to have a positive impact in some way.
Hise leaves an outstanding legacy at NOC, according to college president Dr. Cheryl Evans.
