Tonkawa Public School students will be starting back to class Monday, April 6, but not in person.
Superintendent Lori Simpson said this week distance learning will look different for each grade and class.
Students should go to the school district website at www.tonkawa.k12.ok.us.
Once there, students will go to the school directory for teachers. each teacher will post assignments to their individual teacher page.
Students will use the links to find assignments. Teachers will monitor student progress through the online assignments.
Instructors have also selected to meet with students through Zoom meetings online. In addition, teachers will contact students via text, email or phone calls on a regular basis, Simpson said.
Individual school staff were to meet Tuesday to develop a complete distance learning plan.
Meal Plan, Graduation
Simpson also addressed a new meal plan going into effect Monday, April 6.
Beginning Monday, meal pickups will be Mondays and Wednesdays and will include multiple meals, including hot lunches.
She said no plans for graduation have been made yet. “As the end of the year approaches, seniors and administration will engage in discussion and planning for the graduation celebration.”

Appleman, Jerry Hook and Mary Allan:
-- Approved the 2018-19 audit as presented by Pat Carroll of Charles W. Carroll auditing firm.
-- Approved a Memorandum of Understanding between Tonkawa Public schools Board of Education and Tonkawa Public Schools Support Personnel. It provides all will be paid through the end of the school year June 30.
-- Approved a policy allowing meetings to be handled via teleconferencing or videoconferencing. It is how Thursday’s meeting was held.
-- Approved a resolution granting temporary emergency powers to the superintendent. It allows her to manage the school district within board policies. This will remain in effect until the governor ends his emergency orders of March 15, 2020.
City Manager urges everyone to continue social distancing
Tonkawa City Manager Kirk Henderson Tuesday urged residents to continue to follow CDC guidelines.
“We want everybody to protect themselves and their family members,” he said, “Social distancing is very important,” he continued. (See related story page 6)
Henderson said anyone having issues with paying their bill should call the city office to set up payment arrangements.
“Be safe,” he ended.
