In this time of uncertainty, schools across the globe are forced to make decisions concerning the future with Covid-19. “Nothing in our past has ever been equated to the challenges faced by parents, schools, and communities due to this pandemic,” Superintendent Lori Simpson said.
“Leaders are blindly making plans for what’s to come with an array of emotions; anxiety, anxiousness, fear, concern. Nevertheless, we must have a roadmap to determine where we are going before we approach each curve,” she continued.
Tonkawa Public Schools administration and board along with teachers, staff, parents, emergency medical professionals, and community leaders are doing just that.
This Return to Learn Team is developing a plan to bring students back to school in the fall.
During a meeting in June, the Return to Learn Team met with school officials to discuss the best approaches to opening up schools safely with the well-being of teachers, staff, and students at the forefront. Members shared their expertise in devising a plan consistent with the guidelines of the CDC and the Oklahoma State Department of Health. The team is set to meet Wednesday, July 15th to finalize the Return to Learn plan for Tonkawa Public Schools children. The Tonkawa Board of Education will meet the following week to make the plan official. Upon approval, the district will release the plan to the public.
Tonkawa Public Schools would like to thank the Return to Learn Team for their time and input toward the development of the plan. Members of the team include Kyle Simpson, Kelly Martin, Kristy Gilbert, Justin Kienzle, Holly Peart, Phil Jernigan, Cara Beth Johnson, Michah Keith, Monica Grein, Kari Scott, Stephane Hampton, Kristy Street, Nick Payne, Brian Campos, Sarah Machia, Stefanie Anderson, and Christy Ronald.
