Sgt. David L. Miller, age 71, a resident of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020 at his home. Friends and loved ones paid their respects at the funeral home from 10am-8pm on Thursday, June 18, 2020. A funeral ceremony took place at 1pm, Thursday, June 18, 2020, with Minister Randy Walker officiating. For those unable to attend, the ceremony was broadcast live. The broadcast could be accessed by visiting between 12:45 pm and 1 pm on Thursday and selecting the LIVESTREAM link in the upper right hand of the homepage. He will be laid to rest at a private graveside ceremony with military honors at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma, on Friday. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Tonkawa.

David was born on April 11, 1949 to Jess Isaac Miller and Beulah Q. Totten in Oklahoma City, OK. He was raised in Billings, OK and graduated from high school there in 1967. After high school, he went to work for Gene Carter and later married Loretta Back. They had two sons, James and Ray. As time continued they were divorced, but he remained close with her. In December of 1978 he was married to Galan McZegle. They had two children, David Lee, II and Shelia. In 1977, David joined the U.S. Army where he served as a mechanic, spending three years in Germany during seven plus years of service to our country. Upon returning to the U.S., he settled in Tonkawa and continued helping others as the skilled mechanic he had learned to be in the Army. When David wasn’t working, he adored spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. As well, he was fond of the great outdoors including hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. It wasn’t only the quiet pursuits he enjoyed. Racing cars and playing spirited games of dominoes were some of his other treasured past times.

Survivors include his beloved wife Galan Miller of the home, children: James Back of Billings, OK, Ray Back of Cleveland, OK, Staff Sergeant David L. Miller, II, U.S. Army and wife, Jessica, of Killeen, TX, and Shelia Miller of Tonkawa; siblings: Ronald Miller and wife, Lanita, of Boise City, OK, Karen Crume of Galena, MO; grandchildren: Support your Jeremy local Miller, Joshua HOMETOWN Miller, Joshua Back, Samantha BUSINESSES Miller, and Michael Back.
