Eleven High School Athletes Honored

Sundays in the Park with George

Ponca Playhouse announces its final regular season show for the 2023-24 season with Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Pulitzer-winning masterpiece which originally opened on May 2, 1984. The Playhouse production will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the musical and the 140th anniversary of the painting by Georges Seurat, a French Post-Impressionist artist. The painting, titled “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of a La Grande Jatte”, altered the direction of modern art by initiating Neo-Impressionism and is one of the icons of late 19th century painting. The painting is part of the collection at The Art Institute of Chicago where it has been on view since it was acquired in 1924.

I visited Barnsdall on Friday, and the damage to the town was the most devastating thing I’ve ever seen. It was simply heartbreaking to see that essentially half of the town had disappeared, leaving many homeowners with next to nothing. However, I was glad to see representatives from various state agencies on the ground helping local residents. State health officials were administering tetanus shots. Officials from the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management were there in addition to Highway Patrol troopers and other first responders. FEMA representatives also arrived in town the same day.

There is no doubt that colleges across the nation are more and more starting to look like the 1960s. Within the last month buildings have been taken over and tent cities have sprung up on dozens of campuses filled with students protesting the war in Israel.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma House Representative Jason Lowe, D-Oklahoma City, had his bill HB 3727 signed into law yesterday by the Governor. The bill’s Senate author is Sen. Kevin Matthews, D-Tulsa.
