It’s homecoming week in Tonkawa. But the Bucs won’t get to celebrate much. Why?“We have an outstanding team coming to town Friday night,” Head Coach Mike Kirtley said this week.Tonkawa will host Watonga in a pivotal District A-3 test at 7 p.m. Friday at Buc stadium.“Watonga is very athletic and fast,” Kirtley said, “They gave defending state champion Cashion all they wanted last week,” losing 34-56.It was the Eagles’ first loss of the year.Like Tonkawa, Watonga comes to Buc Stadium with a 4-1 overall record. They beat thomas 20-9, Hobart 40-16, rush springs 54-6 and Minco 46-41.Needless to say, “Watonga is gonna be a handful,” Kirtley maintains.Offensively, Watonga will be in a spread; defensively, a 3-4 alignment.Tonkawa is coming off a 25-6 win over Crescent in the league opener for both teams.“It turned into a slugfest kinda what we thought it would,” kirtley said, “We came out kinda flat the first half, but seemed to catch fire the second half. We’re just glad to get out with a win.”
