BoB Smith

Bob Smith, of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 74.

Robert Earl “Bob” Smith was born on October 1, 1947, in Great Falls, Montana, the son of Robert Earl Smith, Sr. and Dorothy Evelyn (Carpenter) Smith. He graduated from Bel Air High School in El Paso, Texas, in 1966.

Bob married Pamela Sue Rasor in 1967 and was drafted into the Army on July 12, 1967. He was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged on June 22, 1969. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from West Texas State University and his master’s degree in education from Northwestern State College in Alva, Oklahoma. He also attended Oklahoma State University for his graduate studies. Bob and Pam had two children together, Tim and Tammy. Bob married DeAnna Fischer on June 2, 1989, in Tonkawa.

Bob was the principal at Tonkawa High School for 28 years. Following his retirement, he and DeAnna moved to Texas, where he was an assistant principal for 11 years. He will be remembered for his positive impact on so many young lives during his 39 years in education, including helping to establish the wrestling program at Tonkawa Junior High School.

Bob and DeAnna returned home to Tonkawa in 2015. He was proud to be a member of such a tight-knit community. He enjoyed playing golf, entertaining and cooking for others, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce and was Citizen of the Year in 1998. He also was a member of the Elks Lodge and served as Secretary for seven years at the New Braunfels, Texas, Elks Lodge #2279.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Nancy Barnes; and a grandson, Karston Grant Smith.

Survivors include his wife, DeAnna Smith; children, Tim Smith and wife Jennifer; Tammy LeValley and husband Josh; grandchildren Kadyn, Kamden and Kyson Smith, Nolan Hamidi, and Jenna and Callie Estes; and a sister, Elizabeth Kirby.

A rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, August 31, 2022, in the chapel at Roberts and Son Funeral Home.

Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Tonkawa with Father Bala officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Tonkawa IOOF Cemetery.
