Alan Curtis Wetmore of Neodesha, KS passed away at Oklahoma University Medical Center in Oklahoma City on Saturday, January 22. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Alan was born on March 27, 1947 in Ponca City, OK, the son of Albert and Doris (Miller) Wetmore. He graduated from Tonkawa High School in 1965 where he participated in football, National Honor Society, choir, plus numerous other activities. He attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa then transferred to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK where he received his bachelor and master degrees in Agricultural Engineering.

Alan married his high school sweetheart, Debrah (Debbie) Liles on August 30, 1968. They were blessed with 53 years of marriage and 3 children. When raising their family, Alan was booster club president and attended all their sporting and music events where he made sure to video them all.

Alan’s faith in God led him in every step throughout his life. While they attended First Baptist Church in Neodesha, he served as a deacon, financial board member, and along with Debbie, he served as a youth leader. With his passion for the youth to seek Jesus, he was a proud Board Chairman of Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Southeast Kansas where he took numerous mission trips as a sponsor. At Christ Church, Alan was on the Advisory Board, Men’s Cave Time mentor, assisted Debbie with the funeral luncheons, and always showed up wherever he was needed. He had a great love for his church family and will be deeply missed.

Alan spent his working career at BJ Manufacturing in Dodge City, KS for 7 years, Southeast Manufacturing in Neodesha, KS for 3 years, and Hackney & Sons in Independence, KS for nearly 20 years.

After retirement, Alan started his own company, AW Cold Box. He was also a helpmate to Debbie with the Neodesha Arts Association Home for the Holidays Christmas program and volunteered as the Flea Market handyman. Wherever you saw Debbie, Alan was always close by.

Alan and Debbie were blessed with 3 children and 7 grandchildren: Tiffany (Lee) Carmichael, Wyatt and Whitney of Wichita, KS; Trista Tinsley, Keston and Kennedy of Overland Park, KS; and Trent (Andrea) Wetmore, Cecilia, Tennyson, and Vivian of Hermantown, MN. He was their cheerleader, mentor, chaplain, father figure, and the best hugger in the world. He is also survived by his brother Duane (Leona) of Tonkawa, OK and sister-in-law Linda (Jarel) Hansen of Edmond, OK. He will also be greatly missed by his nephews and niece and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Doris Wetmore and his in-laws, Jay and Loumeta Liles.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 5:00 – 6:30 PM at Christ Church, 1001 Elm Street, Neodesha, KS. Funeral service will also be held at Christ Church on Thursday, January 27 at 10:00 AM with a burial service in Tonkawa, OK at 3:30 PM.
