School is out for the summer, but one thing has been left behind--unpaid breakfast/lunch balances.During the pandemic, the Federal government relieved parents and guardians of the burden of paying for breakfast and lunch. This helped many families rebound during the last two years. Beginning in August 2022, that all went away. Student meals are no longer free to all.“To date, the balance of unpaid meals for the 2022-23 school year adds up to over $16,000. This could go a long way in our district. It could provide a salary for a paraprofessional, diesel for our buses going to sporting events, and one month of electricity. Individually, it doesn’t seem like much, but collectively it makes an impact,” states Superintendent Lori Simpson. TPS will assist families in paying balances by setting up a payment plan. Call the Central Office at 580-6283597 or come by 500 E. North Avenue to make payment.
