The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) of Kay County, Oklahoma, met in regular session at 9:00 o’clock a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2019, the meeting was posted for public information on May 17, 2019, at 8:50 a.m. at the Courthouse front door, Commissioners Court, and basement handicapped entrance of the Kay County Courthouse in Newkirk, Oklahoma.
Chairman Jack Godberson called the meeting to order. Those present were as follows: John A. Wilson, Member; Jason Shanks, Member; Brian Hermanson, District Attorney (DA); Kay County Assessor Susan Keen; Dennis Bonewell, Kay County Emergency Management Director; Cody Griesel, Ponca City News; Everett Brazil, Newkirk Herald Journal; Claude Williams, Taxpayers for Transparency; Tammy Reese,
Secretary/Kay County Clerk. (See sign in sheet).
Chairman Jack Godberson led the Flag Salute.
Motion was made by Shanks and seconded by Wilson approving regular meeting minutes of May 13, 2019 and special meeting minutes of May 14, 2019. Motion carried: Godberson, aye; Wilson, aye; Shanks, aye.
Report given by Donna Parker, Oklahoma Court Services, presenting the number of community service hour’s defendants are working and the project they are involved in: Ms. Parker reported new community service clients-19, regular community service clients turned in for the month-66, sanction community service hours completed-290, total hours completed-927.17 and community service offender completions-13. Completed events where clients set up sound equipment, picked up trash, cleaned, picked up tree limbs from recent tornado, cleaned fire trucks and station, painted, did yard work, tagged and hung clothes and mowed yards and did weed eating were done at: Domestic Violence Benefit, Friendship Feast, Habitat Restore, City of Newkirk, Red Rock Fire Department, New Horizons, My Favorite Things and Blackwell Cemetery. She said she received a lot of positive feedback and appreciated the help from the clients. Upcoming events: New Horizon’s, New Life Trails, City of Braman, Blackwell Youth Center, Ponca City Lake, Wheat-heart Nutrition and Friendship Feast.
Motion was made by Wilson and seconded by Godberson approving and acknowledging the County Treasurer’s Summary of Collections April 2019 Monthly Report. Motion carried: Godberson, aye; Wilson, aye; Shanks, aye.
Declare a disaster based on flooding, high wind and tornado damage occurring the week of May 13-17, 2019 for Kay County: Dennis Bonewell told the date reported needed to be changed from May 7 through June 30, 2019.
