Jayden Ott has received the Delphi Study Club Scholarship for 2021.
The scholarship is awarded each spring to a Tonkawa High School senior girl who will attend Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa in the fall. Ott was selected by the club from a number of applicants, based on academic achievement, character, participation in high school activities and desire to continue education. Each applicant submits a statement explaining her career plans and how the scholarship can assist her in obtaining her goals.
During her high school career, Ott has been a member of the National Honor Society, Humanitarian Club and Extended Studies. Her awards include Masonic Lodge Award, Northern Oklahoma College Interscholastic first place and state vocalist. She was selected as Girls State delegate for summer 2020.
For three years she has worked at the dance studio in Tonkawa. Her dance teaching experience has taught her to work with children who have some learning disabilities and how children have different learning styles.
Ott plans to pursue a career in primary education. “During the time period that we had virtual school I had teachers that still reached out to us students even though they did not have to,” she said. “That is when I decided that I wanted to be the teacher that reaches out to her kids and decided to make my future students a priority.”
“Many children in our community are hungry, abused or just not taken care of like they should [be], I want to have a job where I can help these kids or be able to just give them an extra hug every day. I want to be able to be there for the kids who do not have anyone else, make a difference in a child’s life and make children learn to love school because it is important that they get their education,” she said.
Ott was presented with a scholarship certificate award by Delphi Study Club Education Chair Linda Brown at the club spring luncheon. She is the daughter of Laurie and Derek Ott, Tonkawa.
