The Apostle Paul proclaimed, “as God is faithful, our word to you is not yes and no” (2 Cor. 1:18). Apparently he had been accused by being dishonest; of saying on thing and then another. So in his defense, he cited the fact that God is “faithful” to His word, His promises. So Paul trusted in God’s faithfulness to all His promises. God will do what He promises to do. And because He does that, we can have hope in a world that is too often hopeless. So, when God makes a promise… you can count on it.A scholar looked up all the promises in the New Testament and noted that there were 750 promises. Another scholar noted that there were 250 individual promises, so some were repeated for emphasis or for our sake.He gave us those promises so that we would know He loves us and cares about us. Those promises are summed up in ONE promise in Hebrews 13:5 “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” He wants us to know that He watches out for us. His promises are: YOU are not alone; YOU are not abandoned; YOU are not without help. YOU were the reason Jesus came, and bled and died… and rose again. And that is what those promises are all about. You see, it’s WITH Jesus that we have these promises – He’s the one that makes them “new.” But WITHOUT Jesus… you don’t have those promises. We didn’t DESERVE God’s promises; We didn’t EARN a guarantee from God. God offered us His promises because He loves us. “For God so loved the world that He gave us His only begotten Son.” His PROMISE of salvation was based upon His love.
